Creating Hope: An Exploration of Emotions Related to Climate Change and How One Finds Hope
Nataunya Kay, UATA Treasurer, is on the Earth Month committee at the University of Utah and will be hosting an art therapy workshop at the Natural History Museum of Utah on April 3rd. Please see information below about this exciting project!
Wednesday, April 3rd from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Natural History Museum of Utah there will be an art therapy event focused on climate emotions. The event will be titled Creating Hope: An Exploration of Emotions Related to Climate Change and How One Finds Hope and will be in the Swaner Forum space next to the new Climate Hope exhibition at the museum. Art materials will be supplied, including watercolors, oil pastels, chalk pastels, collage materials, found objects, and tissue paper painting.
It will be a night of mindfulness, creating art, and sharing one's thoughts and feelings about the climate crisis. Snacks will be provided. The cost for entering the museum that evening, if you are not affiliated with the University or have a membership to the museum, will be $6.00. The normal cost for an adult is $22.
After coming together to share art, participants will be encouraged to leave their art pieces so that they can be displayed at the Marriott Library beginning on April 10th.
The hope for the evening is that people will be able to create, and expand upon their ideas about climate change and how they find hope, as well as share these feelings with others in a safe, supportive environment.
The exhibit at the Marriott Library will not only be an opportunity to educate people about art therapy, but also open up a dialogue about feelings related to climate change.
Anyone interested in coming together to create art is encouraged to attend. This event is geared for adults and interested teens.
